President’s Message

As President for the 2010/11 season, it gives me great pleasure to welcome new and returning curlers to West Kildonan CC for another exciting year. I’d also like to thank you for visiting this website, in hopes that it is beneficial and informative for whatever it is you are looking for.

Summer is almost over and it’s that time again, the start to another season!

4 Years strong our Cash League (Tuesday nights) has become the place for high calibre curlers competing for a cash prize sponsored by TD Canada Trust Mortgage Sales Force, Peter Jarmasz. A sponsorship with great rewards which makes it a top notch league!

Our MCA requirements this year are as follows:

Manitoba Canola Growers Junior Men's Provincial Curling Championship January 5th - 9th 2012.

Even though curling is an old sport it goes to show that no matter how old or young you are, it’s still a sport that age has no boundaries.

So with that said, on behalf of West Kildonan CC I invite you to come check us out and learn all you can about this special place. Where we applaud talent, dedication and commitment of members old and new making it a place you can always call home!

Keep the tradition alive, honor the game by enjoying the sport!

2012 M&M Meat Shops Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Napanee, February 4-12th.

Team Kyle Doering will be representing Manitoba at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Ontario.

They will be having a Send Off Party/Silent Auction on January 28th at West Kildonan Curling Club at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 - silent auction, cash bar, music, food, etc.

Format:
The Safeway Provincial Championship shall be a thirty two (32) team modified double knockout draw. Eight (8) teams advancing to a semi modified double knockout qualifying round with four (4) teams advancing to the Safeway Four Championship page playoff round. All 32 teams will be ranked and seeded into the standard draw format (#1 vs #32, #2 vs #31, #3 vs #30, etc)

Historic 8 Ender

123rd MCA Men's Bonspiel

West Kildonan’s Brian Leskiw not only scored an eight-ender on Saturday night against Morris’ Lorne Hamblin. He stole eight. The remarkable curling feat, which took place in the fourth end of what turned out to be an 11-3 Leskiw victory at the Granite, might have been historic, too.

MCA Bonspiel officials haven’t had an eight-ender reported in at least 10 years. Another official said it was at least 25 years.

Regardless, a steal of eight could very well be a first for the world’s longest-running bonspiel. Winnipeg Sun ©

CBC - Throwing Stones

We couldn't be more proud of our little half-hour domestic drama. It'll make you laugh, cry and want to run out and grab a beer with your best friends. It stars Academy Award winner Patty Duke, Gemini Award nominees Lolita Davidovich and Caroline Neron, as well as Barbara Radecki and Stephanie Anne Mills.

A bit about the show...

Meet Patti, Shirley, Annette, Cindy and Marge – Five very different women just trying to stay afloat amidst the chaos of life: demanding children, high-maintenance husbands, mortgages that keep them awake at night, uninspiring jobs, and all the challenges that come from being a wife, a mother and more significantly, a woman. They’re working class women who do it all and more. And they’re just desperate for a little me time. They are the real desperate housewives.

BUT…all is forgotten, all is left behind when they are together, playing, training, and competing for their true love…curling. They are proud members of the West Kildonan Curling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Don’t worry – this is NOT a show about curling. For our women, curling is just their escape, their girls’ night out and, frequently, a metaphor for life.

Directed by the brilliant Mario Azzopardi (acclaimed director of “ZOS: Zone of Separation”) and writers Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen, Throwing Stones is a show about life, love, and the power of friendship. Throwing Stones was produced by Mario Azzopardi, Lara Azzopardi, Julia Cohen and Kim Todd (Original Pictures).

We are SO proud of this pilot and, although it will not become a series because the CBC has decided not to program half-hour dramas, we want as many people as possible to tune in and watch it on July 15.
